We live our commitment to sustainability by making our office environment and practices as sustainable as possible. Our location in downtown Baltimore is walk-able, accessible by public transportation and centrally located to many of our clients. Our open office plan features generous windows that allow views and light to permeate the office, so light usage can be reduced on sunny days.
By printing double-sided documents and thinking twice before printing electronic files, we have greatly reduced our consumption of paper and office supplies. We recycle white and colored paper as well as cardboard, bottles, glass and cans, and use only recycled paper in both our printers and copiers. Recently, we installed water efficient fixtures in the restrooms that save water while serving as a demonstration for clients.
At HCM, we are continually evaluating and looking for ways in which we can improve the performance of our work environment and reduce our carbon footprint.
Sustainable Design Committee
LEED training and other “greening” activities are coordinated by the Sustainable Design Core Committee (SDCC). Composed of staff experienced in and dedicated to the principles of sustainability, the SDCC works to inspire and educate our peers, our clients and others on topics such as office greening, energy modeling, daylighting and LEED. The SDCC stays abreast of the latest trends in sustainable design and works to integrate them into our practice.
At Hord Coplan Macht, education is an integral part of our culture. We extend numerous educational and professional development opportunities to our staff and also offer our clients a number of resources to ensure they are up to date on the latest developments in sustainable building. In addition to in-house training, HCM offers staff off-site professional development such as seminars, conferences, specific training and field trips. HCM also maintains a firm intranet dedicated to sustainability which catalogs research, resources, images and data both on our sustainable projects and on others that inspire us.
